Payne's Valley Golf Course
Set among the majestic Ozark Mountains near the Big Cedar Lodge, Payne’s Valley is the first public TGR Design golf course in the United States.
The design of Payne’s Valley created a championship-caliber, family-friendly golf experience that allows individuals of all skill levels to come together to enjoy the game and the beautiful natural setting.
The course plays alongside dramatically exposed rock outcroppings, bold mountain ridges, sweeping valleys, pristine streams, and beautiful mature trees, creating a memorable backdrop for the 18-hole golf course.
The course will play from Ladies 5,000, Men’s whites 6,100, to the Tiger Tees, which stretch the course to its full distance of 7,370 yards. We played the course from the Gold 6,800 and it gave us all we could handle. When driving in you see the rock wall for the 18th and 19th holes and immediately you sense something magical about this course.
On the first tee you can see forever and that seems to be the design – wide fairways. We played in August and the course was in very good condition for the middle of summer. The greens were firm and fast and the fairways were in great shape. The course has holes that are downhill and uphill. Holes that go right and holes that go left. Long par 4’s and short par 4’s.
Green surrounds are intended to allow a variety of recovery shot possibilities, while the fairway rough is maintained to low heights of cut, further promoting an enjoyable playing experience for all golfers.
Notable holes include the par three 5th, playing to a peninsula green; the par three 10th, dropping down to a green that’s protected by water to the left and behind; and the par five 18th, doglegging right around a small escarpment on its way to the home green.
Have you played Payne’s Valley? What did you think – what was your favorite hole – did you par #19 ? Post your thoughts and see what others said in the forum ; here.

Having designed private courses at Diamante in Cabo and Bluejack National near Houston, Woods says he wanted to “honor Stewart” with Payne’s Valley, the first public course in his TGR Design firm’s portfolio.
Accomplishing this required a layout that rewarded the kind of strategic course management and shot-making for which the famously beknickered star was known. However, it also had to provide the vacationing bogey golfer—as well as his buddies and family—with an enjoyable, memorable round.
